Probate Executive/experienced Paralegal – Private Client

As a result of a growing team, our Private Client team has a fantastic opportunity for a talented Probate Executive/experienced Paralegal to work alongside two very experienced lawyers in the Estate Administration section of our Private Client team.

Our experienced and approachable team works with families and professional advisers across the country. We are a sociable, friendly team – busy and hardworking, while ensuring a good work/life balance.

The Role:

The work is varied and rewarding, with a good degree of autonomy and encouragement to develop.

You will need to be able to manage a busy case load of probate and estate administration work, including complex and high value estates. Under supervision you will deal with:

  • Assisting with probate and estate administration, including:
    • identifying, valuing and collecting in assets
    • preparing legal statements and inheritance tax forms
    • reporting estate income and capital gains to HMRC
    • registering trusts with the Government’s TRS
    • preparing and maintaining estate accounts and arranging distributions to beneficiaries in a timely manner
  • Using case management programmes to run cases
  • Liaising with clients (taking messages, arranging meetings etc.), so you should demonstrate professionalism, diplomacy and sensitivity in all your communications.
  • Liaising with other professionals e.g. financial advisers and accountants
  • Document production e.g. preparation of PowerPoint presentations and seminar materials, creating and updating Excel spreadsheets and marketing material
  • Legal research

This is a busy role, with deadlines to manage and competing priorities, so you will be required to work quickly, accurately and efficiently and remain calm under pressure. You will be expected to think ahead to meet the needs of our lawyers and clients. You may also be involved in other activities as required, including helping other team members during busy periods, and to cover absences from work.

You will be encouraged to become strongly involved within the local marketing networks and you will be encouraged to participate in our programme of events. The role may include travel to visit clients in the local area.

The role will focus on other paralegal/NQ and administration duties, to help ensure the team provides the highest level of client experience. The role duties will involve assisting the team with their caseloads as appropriate as well as billing, document review and coordinating and attending meetings.

About You

You will have a caring nature, seeing this role as more than a ‘job’, taking your responsibilities to our clients very seriously, whether the task is big or small. When it comes to individuals’ lives, every detail matters, so you will be someone who considers the wider implications of what you do, and who likes to go the extra mile.

You will be personable, approachable and with a genuine interest in dealing with individuals and their families.

This role involves some basic accountancy skills for reconciling client accounts, so good numeracy skills and a competent knowledge of Microsoft Excel is important.

You will also need strong written and oral communication skills, being able to adapt your style to communicate effectively with a wide range of clients and fellow professionals alike.

You will be exceptionally organised and used to working efficiently and accurately, in a busy and varied role. You pride yourself on your professionalism, with a personal touch and a high standard of honesty and integrity.
