Audiogum enthrals Tech Social with melodies and mathematics

06 March 2017 |

The first GL Tech Social event kicked off in style with Audiogum playing tunes to an invited audience of tech specialists in Bristol on Thursday 23rd February.  The free event saw tech entrepreneurs, start-ups and experts gathering to hear the latest from the Bristol-based firm shaping the future of audio experiences.

As the event got into its swing, 30 tech entrepreneurs, experts and professionals tucked into their drinks whilst comparing each other’s favourite biscuit (personalising the name badges was a fun conversation starter!). Audiogum took to the floor to take guests through their company numbers with a nifty presentation style consisting of tunes and arithmetic. This was followed by the eagerly anticipated pizza delivery, and people continued to talk tech late into the evening.

Audiogum enlightened the gathering about their mission to change the shape of connected audio experiences through a slide of scattered numbers. The numbers told their journey from starting up the business on 3rd May 2016, 4 days after leaving their jobs, to the 300 billion data points and 27 million tracks they have matched in 10 months. These guys are storming the tech industry as experts in personalisation, creating taste profiles that recognise a user’s music personality with spot on recommendations. The tech wizards are currently investing in voice services, enabling the user to ask for ‘a song me and my mum would like’ or ‘play me music similar to Coldplay’.

Mark Wheatley, one of the founding members of Audiogum, gave his thoughts on the evening:

The Tech Social event has given us brilliant insight into the minds of other companies like ourselves. It’s been great to offer advice on the legal challenges we all face in the tech landscape and how we have overcome them with expert help.”

Commenting on what Tech Social is here to do, Richard Gore, Head of Gregg Latchams’ Digital, Media & Technology Sector:

It’s been a great evening, bringing together such a diverse group of experts and professionals within the tech industry. It’s vital there are opportunities for passionate, innovative entrepreneurs to make valuable contacts and that is what Tech Social is here to do.

This was the first Tech Social event from Gregg Latchams’ specialist Digital Media & Technology team. The DMT sector have recently delivered a suite of legal services, including negotiations and share agreements, to enable a tech company complete a major multi million pound fund raise within six months.  You can keep up to date with industry news and events (including our Tech Social evenings!) by subscribing to our newsletter or mailing list, following us on twitter, or keeping an eye on our events page.

Our next Tech Social event, ‘Let’s Get Virtual’, will take place on Thursday 27 April following on from the VR World Congress. Join us for more food and drink, play around on VR kit and hear a bit about some of the key legal issues for VR developers. Sign up now!
