Getting to know… Chris Haywood

21 March 2017 |

Chris recently joined the GL family as a specialist IP & Media lawyer, bringing with him a breadth of experience from brand management, to trade marks and media law.

Why did you choose to join Gregg Latchams?

I met Marti, Paul, Richard and Ken at various points of the interviewing process, having been approached on LinkedIn by Jennifer Bennett. What Struck me was the enthusiasm for growing what is really quite a niche area of practice in response to the demand from GL’s current clients. On top of this everyone just seemed really nice and positive. It was the perfect opportunity to develop a business and try to improve on the things I had seen in other firms.

What is your previous work experience to date?

After finishing my Masters at UCL, I worked as a private IP law tutor before training with Eversheds (now Eversheds Sutherland) in London and Paris. I spent time in both the Media/IP and International Arbitration teams. I then moved to a boutique IP firm in Oxford called Sipara. It was a fantastic experience and I learnt my trade from some of the most outstanding lawyers in the field.

What sector do you specialist in and what are your expertise?

I have worked with clients from all sorts of backgrounds, from individual artists, to large multinational fashion and insurance companies. The nice thing about branding and media work is that it covers issues that crop up in almost any business anywhere in the world.

Tell us a little known fact about yourself…

I’m in a band signed to an independent Japanese record label.
