Gregg Latchams advise on major University IT project

30 April 2014 |

Lawyers from Gregg Latchams Digital Media & Technology (DMT) team recently advised the University of Bristol on the contractual terms for a major IT project. The University is internationally renowned both for the quality of its teaching and research and for its excellent facilities.

The project will see the University replace a number of its legacy IT systems with a fully-integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution to support key business processes including financial management, human resource management, procurement and payroll to over 5,000 users.

Gregg Latchams DMT team advised the University on the terms for the acquisition of the new solution and assisted in negotiating those terms with each of the bidders.

Luke Taylor, Assistant Director of IT Services for the University, said:

“The support we received from Gregg Latchams really complemented our in-house procurement, technical and legal teams, and has helped assure us that we have a contract in place that will meet our needs.”

Ed Boal, a lawyer within the DMT team, comments:

“We are really pleased to have been involved with this project, which will enable the University to improve the efficiency of its business processes; facilitate accurate reporting across the organisation; and, in the long term, bring administrative cost savings. The flexibility of the selected platform will also enable the University to respond to strategic changes much more rapidly.

We enjoyed working closely with the Universitys in-house legal and project delivery teams in navigating the complex issues which are typical with an IT project of this scale. This project follows a number of IT projects which we have advised the University on over the past 12 months, including: migration of the Universitys email system to the Google Enterprise platform; procurement of a computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) system; procurement of cutting-edge library self-service technology; and a series of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) agreements.

The Gregg Latchams DMT team advises on a wide variety of IT/e-commerce agreements, projects and disputes for both private and public sector customers and suppliers. The team prides itself on its combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, pragmatism and common sense.”
