In-house Lawyer celebrates it’s 3 year anniversary

01 December 2015 |

As the Business Manager for Gregg Latchams’ In-house Lawyer Service there is no better time to reflect on its success than at its three year anniversary dinner surrounded by a mass of clients and friends of In-house Lawyer.

One of the clients is Alex Major, owner of Scarlett Pub Company Limited. Alex’s company is focused on bars in Bristol. He originally began with The Royal Navy Volunteer on King Street, Bristol in 2013 and has since grown to acquire the newly refurbished Nettle & Rye, on Kings Road, Clifton (formerly The Hop House).

It was through initial contact with John Dalby, a Director in Gregg Latchams’ Employment team, and then continued contact through the Licensing department which grew the relationship. The need for wider and more comprehensive support was clear in order to achieve the company’s ambitious growth plans and make the business more commercially robust.

“As one of our key clients within the Food, Drink & Hospitality sector, its a pleasure to work with Alex as his business develops and to ensure he’s got the support he needs as the business grows. Being on the end of the phone to answer any question at any time supports him in the way he needs, putting him first so he can spend less time ‘in’ the business and concentrate more ‘on’ the business.” – John Dalby, Director at Gregg Latchams Ltd

Alongside working with Mike Parrott for the Licensing work and Alex Rossiter for the Commercial Property work on the new venue, ongoing employment support and work on the company’s corporate structure, the business was in a much stronger position to venture into further acquisitions, something that might have taken considerably longer and at greater cost had they worked independently of the In-house Lawyer Service.

The In-house Lawyer Service brings together the many strands of legal support available at Gregg Latchams; this is built into a bespoke retainer service, paid for monthly.

Clients are able to utilise any department in the firm for all initial enquiries and can always expect a speedy response from commercially-minded lawyers who understand their business. This on-tap support network makes In-house Lawyer the strategic partner for many businesses, offering peace of mind, security and a competitive edge to its clients.

The variety of firms we work with is quite remarkable, ranging from construction firms to food distributors and international logistics providers. Scarlett Pub Company stands out as the perfect example of how we best work with our clients to help strengthen their position legally and enable them to grow their business successfully.

“Gregg Latchams helped me secure my original site, The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer, by dealing with the purchase of the lease and the helping me alter the premise license due to the building works we have undertaken.  When the business had grown and we were in a position to look at another site, it was an easy decision to go back the Gregg Latchams to help the company develop further.

During the process, Joe Evans suggested the In-house Lawyer service and it makes sense, having all the advice, when needed, in the same place.  Just pick up a phone and help is at hand.” – Alex Major, owner of Scarlett Pub Company Ltd.
