The Edge Awards: Celebrating the South West’s tech best
The South West’s digital media and technology sector is the hot trend to be in this year. Every day, news emerges about the latest success story and now there is an awards event to match the hype. The Edge Awards, taking place this week, host a plethora of exciting established and emerging businesses looking to be recognised for their achievements.
As a fast-paced business environment with an enviable investment profile, Bristol and Bath is now the go-to destination for tech investors from across the UK and abroad. And for the legal world, it’s a fascinating market to be part of; for as well as pushing the usual development boundaries, the tech world is also reshaping and rewriting the law. You could even go as far as to say ‘cutting edge’ law.
Finalists such as Ultrahaptics, Yellow Dog, Opposable and Open Bionics are businesses doing things not done before in sectors and using technologies that were not around in the past. So the law has to catch up with the young bloods. At Gregg Latchams, we use existing legal frameworks and create solutions so that such businesses can flourish without unmitigated risk. At the same time, we interpret new laws for our clients to understand. Often we are called on to set up shareholder agreements, prepare supplier-side terms and conditions, advise on IP protection, data privacy and so on – important legal building blocks for high tech, high growth ambitious companies that the Edge Awards celebrate.
For us, supporting the Edge Awards was common sense. We wish to contribute to the recognition of the South West’s tech sector, encourage others with an idea to have a go and make it irresistible to investors. We are hosting the drinks reception so make sure you arrive early to have a drink and a chat with us. Good luck to all finalists.
