Clare Hopkins

Clare is based in the Bristol office. She has 25 years’experience in private client work and has been with GL Law for 19 years. A former director of GL and Head of Wills & Inheritance, Clare now works with GL Law in a consultative capacity.

Clare acts for both individuals and professional referrers, advising on Wills, inheritance tax and wealth management. She specialises in drafting complex Wills, trusts, and lifetime and post-death inheritance tax planning. She has particular expertise in succession planning for family business owners.

Clare is a Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP) member with an advanced certificate in Family Business Advising. She has previously worked with Bennetts of Wrington, Lindley Johnson and Thursfields Solicitors.

Examples of work Clare specialises in:
• Acting for a family with significant assets. Clare advised them predominantly on lifetime planning opportunities, taking into account their asset portfolio. In this case, Clare advised on the creation of a lifetime trust, Wills and Lasting Power of Attorney.
• Acting for the owners of a family business considering passing the business to other family members. Clare advised on the most appropriate way to ensure the business’ viability and that the wishes of the owners were fulfilled.
